Blason de l'Evangile 2021, A.C. Pomerol, France

Regular price £104.00

Chateau L’Evangile, situated in the appellation of Pomerol, dates back as far as 1741 and was acquired by DBR Lafite in 1989 – making L’Evangile the one and only property Lafite have on the ‘right bank’ of Bordeaux. The vineyard is planted with Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and produces richly textured, complex and ripe Merlot based clarets. The Grand Vin, Chateau L’Evangile, requires substantial cellaring prior to optimum drinking. The second cuvee, Blason de L’Evangile, is accessible in it’s youth – both are wonderful examples of what this prestigious vineyard can achieve.

Opulent and alluring. This Pomerol is very 2021 stylistically with it’s suave, juicy and generously textured fruit. It doesn’t feel like a second wine, there’s nothing thin about this wine. It feels luscious and dense yet approachable and open for business now. The nose kicks off with layers of black cherry, charred vanilla, cocoa, tobacco, spicy oak and blueberry coulis. The tannins feel ripe and there’s an exotic element to the wine with fairly low acidity and super juicy fruit. A polished finish hints a cloves and cassis with touches of dark chocolate. Great stuff from DBR Lafite.
