Celler Alimara Llumi Negre 2019, D.O. Terra Alta, Spain

Regular price £14.95

Celler Alimara is a family-owned winery based in the Terra Alta region of Catalonia, Spain. Founded by British couple Andy & Ali McLeod, the project was born out of a deep passion for wine, sustainability, and the unique terroir of southern Catalonia. The name “Alimara” means “beacon” or “signal fire” in Catalan—symbolising their mission to shine a light on the region’s potential and craft wines that speak clearly of place and purpose. Celler Alimara focuses on producing expressive, small-batch wines that reflect the local landscape, combining traditional Catalan grape varieties like Garnatxa (Grenache), Carinyena (Carignan), and Garnatxa Peluda with modern winemaking techniques. The winery works with low-intervention, sustainable viticulture and takes a minimalist approach in the cellar to allow the fruit and terroir to shine.

In the glass, Llumí Negre 2019 presents a deep garnet colour. On the nose, it offers aromas of dark fruits such as blackberries and plums, complemented by subtle floral notes of violets. The palate reveals flavours of ripe black fruits intertwined with hints of coffee and cedar, leading to a spicy finish. The wine’s balanced acidity and structured tannins contribute to a harmonious and lingering mouthfeel.
