Avondale La Luna 2016, Paarl, South Africa

Regular price £29.95

Avondale estate in Paarl is an estate like no other, their attention to detail in the vineyard is second to none. Their ethos, Terra Est Vita, meaning ‘Soil is Life’ encapsulates their approach and meticulous vineyard management. Fully organic and biodynamic, they produce a range of wines under the management of Johnathan Grieve that individually and collectively surpasses all expectations. From Armilla, their global award winning sparkling wine, through to La Luna their Bordeaux blend, the range is absolutely stacked with astonishing levels of quality and individuality. For anyone seeking biodynamic wines of exceptional balance, complexity and elegance then Avondale should not be overlooked.

The deep ruby with a shimmering robe gives you a slight inclination of quality. If the colour doesn’t give it away the nose certainly does. It’s deep broody and delicious. Cassis, violets, toast, blueberry coulee, dark chocolate, tobacco, sweet charred vanilla and plum jam. Light on it’s feet yet full bodied and rich. This is very impressive indeed. Suave tannins and nimble acidity help taper the generous lashings of ripe black fruit. Complex and magnificently well made. Drink now or cellar for a decade.
