Maison Roche de Bellene Volnay Vieilles Vignes 2018, A.C. Volnay, France

Regular price £40.00

The city of Beaune, once called Bellene until the middle ages, is renowned for its Burgundian wines. Nicholas Potel personally chose this brand name in reference to this city, historically linked with wine and famous for its diversity of terroirs. It was founded in 2008 after establishing Domaine de Bellene. Potel has travelled the world in pursuit of learning as many techniques and skills as possible, so that he could, one day, apply them on his home turf. This wine has been sourced exclusively form the old vines in the village of Volnay. Depth and complexity are the descriptors here, with the wine being light on it’s feet but has so much character to give.

On the nose, an enticing bouquet unfolds with aromas of ripe red cherries, wild strawberries, and blackcurrants, layered with hints of violet, forest floor, and a touch of sweet spice. Subtle notes of cedar, mocha, and dried herbs add complexity. The palate is medium-bodied, displaying remarkable balance and silky tannins. Fresh red fruit flavors are interwoven with savory undertones of earth, minerality, and a delicate whisper of oak. A vibrant acidity provides energy and lifts the wine, leading to a long, graceful finish marked by echoes of red fruit and spice.
